I swear by the shedding blade for any cat. I have a domestic shorthair cat who is kind of furry in the tummy and leaving fur everywhere he lays, so I got the furminator which was really cheap on Amazon. Useless. I had a shedding blade a few years ago but gave it to my friends who took my cat when I moved, and when I got him back, it was summer and he needed to get rid of hair. After uselessly brushing him with the furminator which I thought would be the bees knees, I got this shedding blade and about 20 times more hair comes off with this than the furminator. This safely takes hair off to alleviate some of "last seasons" hair from my cat so he isn't so hot and weighed down by his fur. Less loose hair also means less hairballs.You'll want to be outside when you use the shedding blade because the gobs of hair that comes off is ridiculous. Wear something you'll wash soon afterward. It looks kind of like a crazy tool compared to the more socially acceptable brushes and furminator type of tools, however this is really easy to use, very comfortable for the cat, and takes off hair like crazy. There are two sides for different shedding levels.
